Recently, BMCC received $285,000 to research the lack of male educators in Pre-K classrooms. This caught my attention since we have spoken about the inequality in genders. The lack of male educators feeds the stereotype that early childhood education is a female field. Yes, there is a lot more women in the field but we should brake away from this stereotype.
The study consist of using qualitative methods to help answer the question of why only few men are going into this field and to find a way to reach out to men and promote them to come into the education field. Personally, I am very excited to see the results of this study. To make a change we must first understand what is the cause. This study will help us understand why there is more female educators than male and therefore, we might be able to change this and encourage more males to be in this field. This will not only impact the society but also the kids. It is good for kids to not only have women teachers but men teachers as well. What do you guys think?
